The Three Essentials For Effective Small Business Web Design

To get the very most out of your small business web design or any type of business web design for that matter, you need to address three very important essentials.

The reality though, for many small business websites and blogs is that very few even come close to addressing just one of these essentials for good business web design and as a consequence many fall well short of providing any real benefit for the business they represent.

As a consequence this leaves the door wide open for businesses who understand these three essentials, to really take advantage and out compete their competition when it comes to being profitable and staying around for the long term.

Therefore the first essential for good small business web design is to be able to attract prospects. Many business websites have the ability to attract large volumes of traffic but very few of them have the ability attract traffic that is 100% relevant to what they selling and the reason why is this.

Very few small business websites have their keywords set up correctly. They often use keywords that are too broad, they use keywords that are irrelevant, they use the same set of keywords on every page and in some cases they don’t even use keywords at all. As a consequence all the good off site SEO they may be doing, which can send large volume of traffic to their site, can be wasted.

Therefore to increase the amount of prospects to your small business website your web design first needs to take into account good keyword research and good keyword usage throughout your site.

The next essential for good small business web design is to be able to stop your relevant traffic from clicking away once they land on your site. One of the biggest mistakes business owners make is they talk too much about themselves and their business. All prospects want to know about is what you can do for them to satisfy their needs and what the benefits are to them in either buying your products or using your services.

You, as a business owner, need to appeal to your customers needs and you need to do it in a manner that earns their trust and displays to them that you are credible and can follow through with your claims and promises. This is by far the biggest area where many small business web designs fall well short and consequently lose customers there and then.

The third essential to good small business web design has to do with the process of turning the prospect into a customer. This process begins with the second essential but won’t be completed unless you have one final essential ingredient, a “Call To Action”.

Now many websites do have a call to action but in many cases they are way too soft. They either infer that a certain action should be taken or they simple list a long list of features of their product or service and then expect the prospect to then just hit the buy button, fill in the contact form or pick up the phone to make an appointment.

Therefore to complete the process you need to tell your prospect exactly what you want them to do. It needs to be clear, it needs to be enticing and it needs to be credible.

So these are the three essentials to small business web design. You need to attract more prospects to your site, via the use of well researched keywords followed up with good off site SEO. You then need to be able to engage those prospects straight away, so they don’t click away by satisfying their needs and wants. Then finally you need to have a “Call To Action” that is enticing and appeals to what the prospect is looking for.

If you can integrate these three essentials into your small business web design you will be well on your way to having a profitable business site that adds value to your business and sends you customers like you’ve never seen before.

Airport Apps: A Win-Win for the Travel Industry

Unpredictable weather, long security lines and extremely time sensitive logistical planning makes it easy to imagine that your last trip to the airport could have involved overstressed airport staff rescheduling a flight for a bunch of cranky travelers that cannot understand why they have to spend the night in Frankfurt and pay 10 euros for a 4-pack of batteries.

It’s not the same at every airport, but I have a feeling we’ve all been there at some point in our travel history. This being said, mobile apps provide airports with a huge opportunity to simplify the travel experience as well as provide travel services and tools to minimize stress.

Receive delay notifications on your mobile before leaving the house
Look for alternative flights when your flight is cancelled
Pre-purchase your ticket for the Heathrow Express on your tablet
Breeze through security with your digital boarding pass
Forward yourself your flight, hotel and car rental info an automatically create a travel itinerary
Snap a pic of your parking spot and tag on a map with GPS
Receive a discount coupon from Starbucks after checking-in at the airport via Facebook

What’s really exciting about this space is that all the features listed above already exist and would impact your travel experience in such a positive way.

But if you took a second to think about what’s to come with NFC, QR codes and ERP solutions – mobile could literally revolutionize what we know today as ‘just another trip to the airport.’

Airport apps: It’s win-win

While the ‘Time Killer App’ you played during your 2-hour delay in Amsterdam was a life-saver, the reality now-a-days is that we are always connected to our mobile devices. Airports can take advantage of this opportunity to positively impact their bottom line pre-during-and-post travel by:

Leveraging the unique power of mobile to increase revenue generation
Creating a richer channel for affiliate merchants to reach the consumer
Anticipating delay drivers, plan preventive actions and take recovery measures
Providing cutting edge customer service

This means push notifications for final boarding calls, rich promotional splash pages for seasonal offers, coupon system for airport shops, integrating booking engines for flights, hotels and transportation as well as providing city guides, airport maps and weather information for all arrival and departure cities.

How to get it right

This is a business critical app that would differentiate any airport from its peers if it effectively aligned business priorities with the evolving needs of their customers.

Accurate real-time data mixed with valuable content
Entice travelers to purchase and pre-reserve products or services
Ensure travelers get the most out of their airport visit

From there – the sky is the limit.

PAT Testing Procedure

Portable Appliance Testing (or PAT Testing) is a legally required method of testing portable appliances. There are many stages that go towards the testing process. It will end with either a pass or fail result.

Portable Appliance Testing needs to look at certain safety elements. Amongst the things that can cause the failure is damage to cables, plugs and wires, overheating and signs of water damage. There should be no bare wires and no sign of internal damage.

The testing needs to be done according to the IEE (Institute of Electrical Engineers) guidelines. Before testing takes place anyone who is not part of the testing team should leave the premises.

The most basic part of the testing process is the visual inspection. Over 90% of problems are said to be found during this part of the process. It consists of the tester looking at the appliance and seeing if there are any obvious issues.

Here the tester will be able to see any poor wiring, cracked casing, bent pins and other damage. These are the most basic areas where appliances fail the PAT test.

The location that a particular appliance is used needs to be inspected. There must be sufficient ventilation (depending one the needs of the equipment), the area cannot be unreasonably damp, and controls to the equipment must be easily accessible.

An Earth Bond Test needs to be carried out during the testing process. Electrical Test Equipment is necessary for this part of the procedure. This is a test between the earth bond and continuity between the plug pin and external components. The voltage and test current is assessed during this process.

Other parts of the test are the insulation test and operational test.

The insulation test is necessary to ensure the insulation resistance is safe. The operational test simply consists of the tester switching the equipment on and testing out certain regular functions that it should perform, and making sure its performance is as expected.

Once testing has been completed the result of the PAT test should be clearly stated. The most common method of this is simply placing a label on the equipment. The label will say whether the appliance has passed or failed, and should also include more specific details of its condition. It will give the date of the test and the date at which another test will be necessary.

Equipment that is faulty or damaged should be removed from service immediately. It can then be determined whether or not the seriousness of the damage is sufficient for the equipment to be out of use.

PAT testing records are required to be kept for the duration of the life of the appliance. This is a legal necessity as it shows that tests have been carried out and the results of them.

Computer Glasses Ease Eye Strain

How to avoid getting headaches, blurry vision and tired eyes after a day of working on a computer? There’s an easy answer: Computer glasses! The strain on your eyes from working on a computer is a real condition, and it even has a name: computer vision syndrome (CVS). Experts say that looking at computers simply requires your eyes to work in ways that other activities don’t.

Wait a minute, you say. I already wear glasses. And I still get blurry, tired eyes. There are reasons for that. Ergonomics experts – the folks who measure how your body performs tasks – note that most computer screens sit 20 to 26 inches from your eyes. Your eye doctor calls this range the intermediate zone of vision – closer than distance vision, but farther away than reading.

Most people under age 40 who wear glasses get them to correct their distance vision. Those of us over age 40 often get eyeglasses to correct the onset of a condition known as presbyopia – the loss of focusing ability that’s normal as we age. The problem is, eyeglasses made to correct either of these conditions don’t address what’s happening in the intermediate zone of vision – that space between you and your computer screen! Even bifocals, trifocals and progressive lenses aren’t made for computer-range vision.

Recent research has supported the use of computer glasses. The researchers found that even when CVS symptoms weren’t reported, workers clearly showed differences in their productivity and accuracy. So you can just pick up a pair of computer glasses at the local office supply store, right? Well, maybe. The advantage to buying off the rack is clearly price, but if you have other vision problems, those single-lens glasses might not be the best for you. Experts say the trick to getting that off-the-rack pair is to test them by reading something that’s the same distance from your eyes as the computer screen — 20 to 26 inches.

There can be bifocals, trifocals or occupational progressive lenses. The advantage to these more expensive styles is that you’ll be able to see clearly whether you’re looking at your computer, reading notes on your desk or winking at that cute co-worker across the cubicle from you. The drawbacks, of course, are that these styles require a visit to your eye doctor and usually cost around 0 or more.

Eczema – An Explanation

Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)

Eczema is a chronic, recurrent skin disease and presents as one of the most common inflammatory skin diseases in childhood. Sufferers experience intractable itching with subsequent skin damage, soreness, sleep loss and the social stigma of visible skin damage. Although the cause is not understood , there appears to be a genetic predisposition as well as a combination of allergic and non-allergic factors that determine the diseases expression.

Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis is known as the itch that rashes. Eczema displays in infants as red skin with oozing cracks and small pustules. Eczema lesions are found on the face, wrists, folds of skin and nappy areas of the buttocks. As the child ages the eczema presents as papules and thickened skin in the joint areas. In adults eczema displays as papules and thickened crusted sores that often weep as a consequence of scratching.

Adult eczema is found in flexures, on the face, neck, legs, feet, back of the hands and the genital areas.

Triggers of Eczema

Some people have a genetic inherited tendency to develop eczema, indicated by eczema occurring in families predisposed to hay fever and/or asthma. A normally harmless substance in the environment will often trigger an outbreak of eczema in people born with this tendency. How eczema is first triggered and how severely substances will affect the skin is uncertain as everyone with this genetic tendency is different and reacts differently.

This makes identifying triggers and controlling symptoms difficult. A process for identifying individual triggers is often by elimination and can be a long and drawn out procedure.
Although people react differently and different substances affect each individual differently there are some common substances that are most prone to triggering an eczema flare-up:

* Dust mite
* Animal dandruff
* Pollens
* Environmental and seasonal changes
* Stress
* Some foods ( egg, cows milk, shell fish, peanuts, wheat, nuts, rice, food additives and some fruits)
* Alcohol and coffee.

Nutrition

Nutrition plays a very large role in the outcome for eczema sufferers. An important reason for eczema occurrence is the western diet which promotes inflammation in the body. A defect in the bodies ability to metabolise Gamma-linolenic acid, (GLA) is thought to play a major role in the onset and development of eczema. GLA is the molecule produced from linoleic acid, the body makes Prostaglandins and Arachodonic acid from it. These two products are used by the body to trigger allergic reactions and the bodies response to injury and attack. When there is too much GLA, the body has excessive inflammatory response. The Western diets have an excessive amount of Linoleic acid (omega 6) to the alpha -linolenic acid (omega 3) of 10:1.so GLA promotes inflammation when the person has a defect in its metabolism or usage. This defect is, I believe, the reason that some people suffer eczema .

It is proposed that an eczema sufferer should supplement their diet with specific nutrients, particularly calcium, iodine, vitamin C and omega 3 fatty acids. Vitamin C @ 50 to 75mg/kg has been found to be beneficial. Flaxseed oil and fish are good sources of omega 3 fatty acids. The inclusion of Vitamins A & B6, Zinc and Selenium, Biotin, Evening Primrose Oil & Lecithin are also proposed. Dosages should be worked out by your Naturopath or “enlightened” Doctor .

Dog Friendly Apps

Conveniently, there are many apps out on the market that are “pet” friendly. Our society enjoys the companionship that both dogs and cats have to offer. That is why companies have begun to help people who love their four-legged companions. Now help is at the convenience of a push of a button.

Traveling with your pup

If you are traveling with your pup, not all of the hotels you pass are going to let your canine friend stay in the room with you. That’s why “Android” has provided some apps that let you locate pet friendly places to stay for the night. “Hotel Planner” is an application designed to locate hotels nearest you.You can even save yourself a room at your convenience. The bonus is that the application informs you of their rules and regulations on your trusty companion. This can prevent the hassle of searching for a place for you and your canine friend to stay for the evening.

You’re tired, your pup is tired, you don’t want to be hotel hopping in the middle of the night. You can get ahead by being prepared for your next trip. “Hotel Booking” is another “Android” application that offers similar options, most importantly, being able to locate a nice place for you to spend the eve with your puppy.

Applications by “iPhone” do not yet provide pet friendly hotel locations, but do make your stay in an unfamiliar area more pleasant for you and your doggy. “Paw Trotter” seems to be the most universal app. It provides locations for all kinds of pet oriented locations that range from parks to veterinarian’s offices.If you are out of town, but still seeking some quality time with your pup, this application allows you to search for places throughout the United States.

If you come across a new location, they even ask you to submit it as an addition to their provider. ”Off Leash” is another application that uses GPS to specifically search for the five nearest dog friendly parks so that you can get your morning walk in, or enjoy a good game of fetch while out on the road.
Instant answers

If the worst situation happened to occur, “iPhone” offers an application called “PetMD.” It provides information that can help you help your canine friend in a bad scenario. This application may be a handy tool, especially if you are traveling and are not close to a veterinarian that you may trust. While traveling, a “pet doctor” is not always conveniently around. This application provides you with information that can range from broken bones to snake bites, so that you can assist your four-legged friend until you can get them to the vet. Optionally, “iPhone” offers an app called “Pet Notebook” that stores important information such as shot updates for your companion. This saves the hassle of carrying paperwork with you as you and your doggy enjoy a vacation away from home.

Whether you are on a business trip, or just getting away from the monotony of home, there are several phone applications that provide you and your friendly companion a safe and fun trip. Enjoy and Woof!

Car rental companies do provide dinner for toddlers, but will you look for it?

Of course, those of us with a good credit score can rent an RV and cook whenever we need food for the toddlers. That way, we can always take the emerging food preferences into account without undue waste and expense. It’s the same if we decide to go the route of camping. We can either pick the sites with cooking facilities or carry our own gas rings. Remember starting real fires in the middle of our current hot summer is not likely to endear us to Park Rangers and others trying to prevent wildfires from starting. So this gives you a shopping list of possible makes and models to shop for at the car rental agencies if you propose carrying outdoor cooking equipment.

Otherwise you load the people into the vehicle and set off into the wild blue yonder, full of the joys of the road and hope in your hearts. Those of you with toddlers will know they are just learning about the world and beginning to take some control over how they relate to it. One of the first symptoms of toddler control comes in emerging taste preferences. This is not to say any child should have a say over what gets put on the plate, but practical reality may call for some negotiation over how much is eaten. Most children go through phases of being picky. Many never seem to emerge from this phase. If you’re lucky, the child will only eat something available at every diner or restaurant. This may be macaroni cheese which has the benefit of being relatively cheap and nutritious, or it may be junk food which will encourage faster growth around the waist. Either way, you need food storage in the vehicle you rented so that, if there’s a mutiny and all outside food is refused, you can fall back on snacks when the real hunger kicks in.

Hopefully, the car rental companies offered guidance on the diners and restaurants offering child-friendly portions at reasonable price. If not, spend time on the internet searching out the likely places to eat. Never assume all diners will cater for your toddlers.

Real Estate Equity – Investment Capital, Debt Consolidation or a Retirement Nest Egg?

There is a significant interrelationship between personal investment planning, credit purchasing and real estate ownership. On the face of it that may seem obvious, but the complexity of the interrelationship bears some scrutiny.

During the last quarter of the 20th century there was an amazing proliferation of the use of credit card purchasing. Credit card purchasing continues to gain use as a means for medium term financing for larger household needs, as well as, a means to spread over time individual fluctuations of income and other changes in the economy. Unfortunately, many Americans caught up in the economic prosperity of the several past decades have used credit cards to amass debt beyond or challenging their ability to repay.

It has been over two decades since Congress removed from the federal income tax code the ability to deduct interest payments on most credit/debt instruments “except” home mortgages. This Congressional enactment immediately catapulted the home mortgage market to the forefront. Suddenly, 2nd home mortgages and complete home refinancing became an attractive tax-incentivized debt consolidation tool. Of course, the financial sense of using a home mortgage for debt consolidation depends on several key factors. Among them is the rate of interest in the home mortgage marketplace, personal circumstances and a willingness to trade short-term debt for long-term debt on the prospect of real estate appreciation.

There continues to be substantial debate regarding the financial sense of maintaining equity in a home. In the simplest terms the two sides of the issue are:

Equity in a home can be put to better use. Essentially this means home equity that could be turned into cash should be invested in financial instruments that will outpace appreciation in the value of the home. This assumes that home equity cash can be put to more effective financial use. Second home or investment property purchases, tuition for education and high interest credit card debt are the more common uses of cash out refinancing or second mortgage financing and can all be considered a more effective application of equity depending upon circumstances.

* Conversely, as the home loan is paid down and home value appreciation develops the equity that builds eventually becomes a retirement nest egg. A debt free home is can represent utopia for those entering their retirement years.

As the debate goes on, the truth of the matter is that the best approach depends on factors such as economic climate, personal timing, property value appreciation and personal investment discipline.

Then there are the tax issues that play into nearly all financial decisions. As previously noted, home mortgages and second mortgages are tax deductible. This factor can be a significant decision point. The interest paid to the lender, as part of a mortgage payment, is deductible from federal and most state income taxes. Lenders provide notification of the amount of interest paid on a home mortgage during the tax year, and that amount may be itemized as a “qualified residence interest” deduction on federal, state and local income tax returns. The interest deduction is applicable to debt assumed for home ownership up to $ 1 million. The deduction applies to first and second mortgages, as well as, other debt instruments used to finance a primary residence.

Debt that is assumed for any purpose, but financed through a home loan, is also deductible so long as the amount of indebtedness does not exceed the lesser of $100,000 or the fair market value of the home.

Refinancing an existing mortgage to release equity without the additional benefit of an interest rate reduction may not be the most frugal approach. As with any mortgage there are specific closing costs associated with the transaction that is mostly based upon the amount of the loan. Conversely, a second mortgage for the purpose of extracting equity would normally create a much smaller loan and consequently lower closing cost.

When considering a second mortgage there are two distinct structures that normally come into play. The “Home Equity Line of Credit” generally offers a low interest initial interest rate and only requires the payment of the accumulated interest each month. The advantage of this structure is that it is a line of credit with a limit and the consumer only pays interest on the amount actually used. The risk factor is that it is a floating interest rate adjusted to a particular financial index such as “prime” or “cost of funds”. The option less adventurous borrowers elect is the standard fixed rate second mortgage amortized over 15, 20, or 30 years.

Regardless of the structure of the loan current lending criteria will likely restrict the amount of the mortgage to 80% “combined” loan to value (CLTV). This means that the maximum amount borrowed including the existing first mortgage cannot exceed 80% of the value of the property as determined by the lender’s evaluation.
